Standards

Manufactured to spec.

Every pipe leaves the mill against an internationally recognized standard with mill certificates traceable to the source heat number.

ASTM A53 Grade A & B

Welded and seamless steel pipe for mechanical and pressure applications. The reference standard for firefighting, plumbing and structural piping in North American practice.

½″ — 12″ · Sch 10 / 40

EN 10255 Type L & L1

European standard for non-alloy steel tubes suitable for welding and threading. Specified for water, gas and low-pressure service.

DN 8 — DN 150

UL 852

Metallic sprinkler pipe listed by UL for use in automatic sprinkler systems. Independently evaluated for life-safety compliance.

1″ — 8″ · UL Listed

BS 1387

British standard for carbon steel tubes suitable for welding, threading and plain-end use across utility and process piping.

Standard comparison

ASTM A53 vs EN 10255.

Both standards are accepted across the region. The right choice depends on consultant preference, end-use, and the threading or welding the system requires.

Pipe anatomy

The dimensions that matter.

Buyers and specifiers care about a small set of measurements. Each one is verified per pipe length against the mill certificate.

OUTSIDE DIAMETER (OD)WALLSTRAIGHTNESS / LENGTHWELD LINE
  • Outside diameter (OD)

The nominal outer measurement that drives fitting selection. Verified against the standard's tolerance band on every length.

  • Wall thickness

Determines pressure rating and schedule (Sch 10, 40, etc.). Checked at multiple points along each pipe.

  • Weld line

The longitudinal seam from electric resistance welding. Inspected by eddy current and ultrasonic — flash trimmed flush inside and out.

  • Straightness & length

Pipes leave the line straightened and cut to length. Bow tolerance is verified before bundling.

Size range

½″ to 12″, scheduled.

Coatings & finishes

Surface, specified.

Each pipe leaves the mill with a finish chosen for its service environment — buried, exposed, fire-suppression or process.

Hot-dip galvanized

Zinc coating per ASTM A53 / BS EN 10240, recommended for buried water lines and exposed installations requiring corrosion resistance.

Black plain-end

Mill-finish carbon steel pipe, supplied with light protective varnish. Standard finish for fabrication and weld-out service.

Red painted

Factory-applied red oxide or topcoat for sprinkler and standpipe fire systems, meeting NFPA visual identification practice.

Primer coated

Project-specified primer for downstream painting or wrap, applied under controlled conditions for uniform film build.

End preparations

Connections, made simple.

Plain, beveled, threaded (NPT or BSPT) or grooved ends supplied to project specification — with caps and identification banding on request.

Plain end

Square-cut, deburred ends for site welding, socket connection or coupling. Standard finish for fabrication.

All sizes

Beveled end

30° + 7.5° bevel angle per ASME B16.25 for butt-welded service. Specified for high-pressure and process fabrication.

2″ — 12″

Threaded — NPT / BSPT

Taper threading per ASME B1.20.1 (NPT) or ISO 7-1 (BSPT), supplied with coupling and protective end cap.

½″ — 6″

Grooved end

Roll-grooved ends compatible with mechanical couplings (Victaulic-style) for sprinkler and HVAC systems.

1″ — 8″ · UL
